The Crossing Foundation
The Crossing is humbled to announce that an endowment has been established for its benefit with Lakeshore Community Foundation by Linda and Gary Underwood in the amount of $250,000.
An endowment is a commitment to hold the principle in perpetuity. Distributions are made from the investment earnings to The Crossing. It is The Crossing’s desire to grow this endowment and as the endowment principle grows so will the cumulative impact in distributions.
In the future this will provide sustainability for existing and expanding services to women and families in our community.
“The Underwoods have filled leadership roles at The Crossing for many years,” comments Belinda Esquinas Gilbert, executive director. “Linda has been a diligent and insightful client advocate and Gary has had pivotal roles in the acquisition and ongoing renovation of our HOME, a Place of New Beginnings. Typical for non-profit service organizations, we always seem to be struggling for resources and that’s why we feel so blessed to have been awarded this endowment, giving us an increased security as we prepare future programs. All of our services are free and confidential.”
The Crossing opened its HOME, a Place of New Beginnings in 2016, a transition program for young women, pregnant or with small children who seek support and guidance in turning their lives around. While it has been a major financial investment, it has logged successful residents into independent living and continues to operate at full capacity.
Plans are under way in Pregnancy Services to expand the Earn While You Learn program, offering family education and counseling with peer advocate guidance and support. A “hand up, not a hand out,” this program allows parents to “earn” baby supplies with family educational programs. Over 160 clients are served each month.
The Medical Clinic provides ultrasound exams, pregnancy and STI testing supported with counseling and appropriate referrals. While our mission is life affirming, we are non-judgmental, positive and loving in our interaction with these clients as they face significant decisions.
The Crossing of Manitowoc County is a non-profit, Christian- based organization. The mission is to offer life-affirming help to women and men facing unplanned pregnancies and to provide services that will support women and families thereby strengthening our community.
